Journey Through Resilience: Exploring Smritivan Earthquake Memorial and Museum

 You might think about why i have used the word "Resilience" means "to recover quickly from difficulties". On 26th January 2001, the Bhuj city had experience massive Earthquake which was held for 90 seconds but it harmed to the public, historic monuments, buildings, public spaces, hospitals and more. there were almost 13,000 people were died and approx. 20,000 people were injured. 

The Smritivan Earthquake Memorial and Museum is dedicated to the victims of Earthquake who losts their lives. The "Smritivan" museum was inaugurated by India's Honorable Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi ji who was also Chief Minister of Gujarat at time of Earthquake. Also, it was his dream to create such museum for public to know how the public of Bhuj city overcome such earthquake and it makes years to fulfill such big project.



I and my two best friends had recently visited the "Smritivan" museum and i am grateful for sharing such experience with you all. The "Smritivan" museum is built on top of Bhujiya Hill located in Bhuj city Gujarat. While entering in "Smritivan" their is nominal ticket of INR 20 it gives access to the Walkway and Smritivan entrance gate. The Ticket for "Smritivan Museum" for people residing in India is INR 300 (Above 12 years), INR 100 for Children or school students (under 12 years) and for children under 5 years is INR 0. And for Foreigner INR 1000. The museum is opened daily from 11AM to 7PM and it Closed on Mondays. The project is spread across an area of 470 acres. there is facilities of restaurants dining and shops to purchase hand crafted items made by local peoples of Bhuj city.

The Smritivan earthquake museum is divided into seven blocks REBIRTH, REDISCOVER, RESTORE, REBUILD, RETHINK, RELIVE and RENEW each representing a different aspect of what the museum stands for. We had chosen time of 3:00 PM and there is system of sending people in groups so you have to wait for other people. But you get different experiences in all seven blocks as it shows history, the ancient things people use to survive, how they lived in situation and much more to experiences there. you must need minimum 3 hours of time to experiences whole Smritivan Museum. There is restaurant inside the Smritivan the food is amazing, and the service is ten on ten overall experience is amazing. There is also a section of hand-crafted item store for the visitors who can buy an product from there, the items like cloths for men, women, child other hand-crafted item like bandhani which are specialty of the city and this small support to the women artisans sitting in villages to showcase their talent. 

The main section or the main block of Smritivan Museum is block no. 6 is "RELIVE" where we have experienced the "Realistic Earthquake" which people felt in the 2001 it literally gives the feel of earthquake that how it had occurred and the people had lost their closed ones. It is the best section of the Smritivan Museum.



At last, their is section or block 7 "RENEW" where the Visitors can light up a "Digital Flame" through touch Pannels which will travel through digital LED walls up to the ceiling and form one united light. Its a small flame for the one who lost their life's in earthquake. 



It shows the beauty of the city Bhuj and how the people of Bhuj city had overcome the calamities and how they are living their Beautifull life in city. I hope you enjoyed the journey with us. We will soon there with new and exciting journey and memorable experiences for life.
